WNBH NEW BEDFORD, MA 1340 VERIFICATION

A nice top of the hour identification from WNBH on the 24th October was verified by Craig Healy by a nice e-mail. Craig is a DX-er him self and run the site AM-DX. He is also a ham operator with the call NG1U. Thank you Craig for a nice verification.

WERC BIRMINGHAM, AL 960 VERIFICATION

What a suprise! Hearing a "..on News Radio 9-60 WERC" identification on 960 and find out that it was a station with that call in Birmingham, AL on 960! E-mail from Bob Newberry, Market Engineer verified my report. This is the "best" logging so far from the AND1 expedition.

WBBM MELBOURNE, FL 1240 VERIFICATION

E-mail from Ken Holiday verified my October 24th (AND1) report. Good signal from this station. The 24th was very good to North America. "That is definitely us and that is definitely me you hear doing the intro into the fox news. Thanks" writes Ken in the verie.

KYKN KEIZER, OR 1430 VERIFICATION

Mike Firth sent me an e-mail with an attached verification letter. KYKN was heard with a very good signal one morning during the AND1 expedition.

AND1 DX-EXPEDITION TO ANDOYA

AND1 19. – 28.10 2007. (69N02 15E31)

EQUIPMENTS: SDR-IQ’s, ICOM R-75’s, AOR-7030’s and ETON E1’s. EXTRA HARD DISK’S, MP3 AND MD PLAYERS.
ANTENNAS: WEST: 300 METER, NORTH WEST: 250 METER, NORTH: 400 METER.

This year we were testing out a new QTH up in the north of Norway. During the spring/summer 2007 Jan was doing a great job to find a suitable QTH. And we ended up with Marmelkroken on Andoya island. I start from home 1.00 a.m on the 19th and after traveling with bus, plane and car we arrived at the new QTH just after 12.15 p.m. (UTC) Most the equipments was all ready at the location so we started to set up the antennas immediately. The terrain is mostly farm fields, but it’s very wet at the islands so we had to cross some dikes and a small river. All antennas ended up close to the Norwegian Sea. When we turn on the radios we notice many strong stations from Alaska and Northern Canada.

What did we expect to hear? The prime goal for the expedition was “The America’s”. The QTH have mountains to the East. So, Asia is almost absent. (That means no interference to North American stations during daytime!) It’s possible to put up an antenna to the north east witch hopefully can give better signals from Hawaii and maybe also other Pacific stations. The solar weather was not at our side during the expedition. But we did have some very good propagation to Brasil, Argentina, Paraguay most evenings. On the 22nd we had a very good opening to Northern LA during SR. On the 24th we had a great opening for hours to Ontario and New England states of USA. We also had a couple of good West Coast openings.

We all have hours and hours of recordings to go trough and it will take months to finish the complete logs. Here’s a couple of examples of what we heard from NA: CKAT, ON 600, CKNX, ON 920, WERC, AL 960, KUSW , WA 1250, KAPL, OR 1300, WNBH, MA 1340 WNER, NY 1410.

HJNO LA CARIÑOSA, GIRARDOT 1320 VERIFICATION

National Manager, Blanca Luz Holguín Diaz at RCN verified my October 15th report to this station. I heard HJNO with a local identification due to a beauty contest in Girardot.

KWSU PULLMAN, WA 1250 VERIFICATION

Very nice e-mail from Dennis Haarsager verified my October 21st 2007 (AND1) report yesterday evening. I heard KWSU with a fair signal as early as 0159UTC. Dennis is of Norwegian heritage and has been the General Manager for KWSU 29 years and finally received a report from Norway last week. First report from OJ Sagdahl (witch Dennis is in family with!). OJ heard KWSU in Kongsfjord the same day as I did at Andoya. Dennis have been a BC-DX-er and have a ham licence (N7DH). Thank you for a very nice verification Dennis!

TWR PUTTALAM 882 SRI LANKA, VERIFICATION

Long nice e-mail from Vels, Station Engineer at TWR Puttalam verified my November 2003 (KONG9) received on the 23rd October when I was on a dx-expedition to Andoya. I will post more about the expedition later.

I heard TWR Puttalam with a very good signal as one of the few stations during KONG9 witch was hit by a mega solar flare in 2003!

KGY OLYMPIA, WA 1240 VERIFICATION

E-mail from Dennis Brown at KGY verified my October 2006 (KONG14) report this evening. Heard KGY briefly on October 12th with a TOH identification. Dennis promissed to send me som bumper stickers by snail mail.

CKFR KELOWNA, BC 1150 VERIFICATION

Mark Burley, Group Program Director confirmed my October 2006 (KONG14) report this evening. I heard "Oldies 1150" with a very good signal one morning. CKFR have now change it's format from Oldies music to a news/talk/sport format. Thank you Mark for a new British Colombia station.

VSB AM GOLD, HAMILTON, BERMUDA 1450 VERIFICATION

My 3rd verification yeasterday evening came from Ken Harris, Special Projects Manager at Defontes Broadcasting Ltd. He sent me an e-mail verifying my September 2007 report. He also mention the companys 2 other AM stations. 1160 (BBC, no local identifications) and 1280 (BBN, no local ID). Thank you OJS for the QSL information.

Nice e-mail from Ralph J. Hunt, CE verified my October 2006 (KONG14) report last evening. "Sportsradio 12-70" is often very strong in Kongsfjord.

KAXX EAGLE RIVER, AK 1020 VERIFICATION

Brief e-mail from Mike W. Robbins verified my October 2006 (KONG14) report this evening. KAXX was heard with a good signal playing classical music.

WDAY FARGO, ND 970 VERIFICATION

Tom Thompson verified my September 2007 report this evening with a e-mail. WDAY was heard with a good signal during my "Mountain DX" and my 2nd North Dakota QSL from this event! WDAY start up in 1922 and is one of a few stations west of the Mississippi River with a W call. Tom have Norwegian relatives as many in North Dakota. Thank you for a nice verification Tom.

ZNS1 RADIO BAHAMAS 1540 VERIFICATION

NEW COUNTRY! Finaly afther several reports to ZNS1 1540 I just received a brief e-mail from Carlton Smith, Sr. Deputy General Manager verifying my 2004 report. Many thank's to Roger Granholm in Finland for coming up with a workabel e-mail adresse. Radio Bahamas is quit common on 1540 at my location.

KVOX FARGO-MOORHEAD, MN 1280 VERIFICATION

Brad Wilson, Engineer at Radio Fargo-Moorhead verified my September 17th report with a e-mail. Informations gives call as KVRX to this station but Brad saied in the mail that the call is KVOX! They have a relegious formate and the sports programme is moved to their new station KKAG 740. Very nice to hear KVOX in the southern part of Norway!/Brad Wilson inform in a e-mail that 1280 now is KVXR and 740 is KVOX.

MOUNTAIN DX

During the weekend 14th to 17th September I was at our summer cottage at 980 meter asl. I put up a 450 meter long bog antenna to the north west. Conditions was very good towards the west coast and US mid west states. This is not very common so far south in Norway. My new SDR-IQ impressed me a lot!
