E-mail from Tom Freel, Operations Manager at NNB Radio Astoria verified my October 12th 2006 (KONG14) this afternoon. “Sports radio 12-30 ESPN” is the dominant station on 1230 in Kongsfjord. I have tried several times to get a verification and finally Tom made my day!

Long nice e-mail from Radiy Brudigan verified my October 12. 2006 (KONG14) report this evening. KRBR popped up from the jumble with station ID and weather forecast. Ainsworth is a community with about 2000 located in the north central part of Nebraska. There’s many large cattle farms in the area up to 20 000 to 30 000 acres! KBRB broadcast a lot of local sports and the music on the AM station is mostly country and western.

Nice letter from Stewart Bayley, Chief Engineer at CKPC Brantford verified my October 9th 2006 (KONG14) report today. Brantford is known as “The Telephone City”. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in Brantford in 1874. Brantford is also the hometown of the greatest NHL hockey player Wayne Gretzky. CKPC broadcast with 10 kilowatt 24 hours a day . CKPC have been on the air since 1923, broadcasting from Preston, ON and they moved to Brantford in 1933

Very friendly e-mail from Bill Hatch, News/Program Director at KWIK 1240 this evening. He answered after just a few minutes to my follow-up e-mail. He could not see that my snail mail letter had been received at the station. KWIK broadcast with only 960 watts but that’s enough to reach Kongsfjord during good conditions.

Very surprised when I open up my inbox and found a email from Sr. Roberto Carlos Chavez Ch. Director Radio Tacana this evening. In an attached word doc. he verifies my reception of Radio Tacana. I have heard Radio Tacana several times and the signal was very strong on the 24th January 2006. I send them a snail mail letter in the beginning of February and nothing happened until now. A big thanks to Roberto for one of my best QSL’s this year.

Short e-mail from Mirtha Cabrera, Secretaria verified my 20th February 2006 report to Radio Nuevo Tiempo this evening. Radio Nuevo Tiempo was heard with a very good signal. My snail mail report didn’t get any respond so an e-mail report was sent last week.
Very nice letter from Mr. Ryo Sasaoka at Engineering Department JORB Kochi verified my October 6th 2006 (KONG14) report today. He also enclosed 3 QSL cards and a print out of many pictures from the transmitter site and the city of Kochi. I heard JORB with a good signal during the local identification at 13.19.55 UTC

Very nice e-mail from Dave Eddy at WBCK 930 this evening verified my October 9th 2006 (KONG14) report. I heard WBCK mixed with WAUR, CJCA and the Mexican XEU. Dave is also a HAM-colleague (WA8UYW) and friendly to DX-ers. He promised to send me a verification in the mail also.

NEW STATE! One of my best catches during KONG14 was first found by Jan Alvestad and lucky enough I was on 1400 at the same time. The “AM 1400 KJOK” identification was quit clear for a local channel station. KJOK was heard on the 10th October. News Director Jennifer Blackwell sent a short but very welcome e-mail this evening confirming my snail mail report.

Very nice letter from Jo Ann Juliano, President and owner of KDBM, Dillon, MT verified my 12th October 2006 (KONG14) report today. She said in the letter that she would have verified my report before but they have been extremely busy due to the election in USA. KDBM’s programme consist of a lot of local sport. NEW COUNTRY!! A short but much welcome e-mail from Solomani Lewanavanua verified my October 7th 2006 (KONG14) report. Radio Fiji 2 was heard on several frequencies 810, 1206 and 1476 with good signals. My 183 country verified. Radio Fiji 2 broadcast in Hindustani.
Paul Wilson, Program Director at KHBZ 990 verified my October 7th 2006 (KONG14) report with a letter attached to a e-mail. He comment the good quality of the recording I sent. We had a couple of days with very good conditions to Hawaii during KONG14 and many of the stations had huge signals.

WSAU have been heard with a good signal this autum and Chris explain why: WSAU have upgrade the transmitter to 15.000 watts day and 20.000 watts night. They have received several reports from Finland and Norway this year.

Nice letter received from Mr. S. Trofinov, Buisness Development Director at Echo Moskva 91.2 today. Echo Moskva was heard during the exelent opening to Russia on th 18th July 2006. The station started up on the 22nd August 1990. They use a 5kw transmitter on 91.2 in Moscow. The formate is new and talk. Echo Moskva can also be heard in several other city's in Russia.

First QSL from the KONG14 reports in my inbox this evening. Very nice e-mail from Curt Teigen at KDLR Devils Lake, ND 1240. Curt informe me that KDLR has been on the air since January 1925! When they start up they didn't have any equipment to play music directly on the air so a women would play piano, accordeon and other music live on the air. They couldn't afford to buy a microfone the first years so they made one out of an old telephone! Curt have, as many from the mid-west states of the USA, many relatives in Norway.

KONG14 ended on Friday 13th. We had 8 great days in Kongsfjord. Conditions was sometimes exelent, weather was OK and the food super. (Thanks to our chef Bjarne). We also had a very tasty dinner at the local guest house one evening. (http://www.kongsfjord-gjestehus.no/) Many hundred hours of recording to listen to the weeks to come and many, many reports to write. Many thanks to Bjarne Mjelde (The host), Jan Alvestad and Tore B. Vik for very nice company! Time to start waiting the first QSL's in the innbox.

The baggs are packed for the KONG14 DX-expedition. I leave tomorrow at noon and we will be in Kongsfjord late tomorrow evening. The solar weather looks promissing and we hope conditions will be good. I received one of my best QSL's ever today. A letter, photo, post-card and a Ecuador flag was received from Dr. Juan Villamar, Dir. Ejecutivo today. I found this station on a MD from 2004 earlier this autum. This was a very bigg suprise for me. My Ecuador station number 30.

7th September I heard Radio Senda on 1680. I have been monitoring the frequency since I saw this station was heard in Scandinavia. 4 houers of monitoring last nighet finaly gave results. Nice to see that also Central American stations start to use the x-band.

Finaly some action in the "inbox" again. John Schaefer, Music Director at KGNU 1390 sent me an e-mail verifying my October 2005 (KONG12) report. KGNU is an independent, non comercial station licenced for Denver/Boulder area. When I heard the station they run a programme to rais money for the station. KGNU can be heard at 88.5 FM and 1390 AM. One of my better loggings at my KONG-expeditions.
Haven't been to mutch to post here in August. Haven't listen to mutch and no QSL's. One good station heard: ZYJ681 Rádio Rondonia, Pimenta Bueno, RO 1480. I have been going trough some MD's and found a very nice station from 1st Marz 2004 at 0600 UTC: Radio Filadelfia, Guayaquil with a crystal clear identification! We are looking foward to this season as we we now going into solar-minimum.

This evening between 1630 and 1720 utc a great opening to Moscow on FM on the low end of the band. Signals was very strong. 87.9 City FM, 88.3 Retro FM, 88.7 Yumor FM, 89.1 Jazz FM, 89.5 Megapolis FM, 89.9 ??, 90.3 Avtoradio, 90.8 Relax FM, 91.2 Echo Moskva, 91.6 Radio Kultura and 92.0 Govorit Moskva came in the log. We want more of this!

Orlando Cano P., Coordinador General Teleradio 1350 AM verified my 3rd October 2004 report with an e-mail. Teleradio was often heard at my location before RTI start broadcasting on this frequency from Latvia. Teleradio now broadcast CNN in spanish 24 houers with national and international news. This verification was most welcome!

Larisa Suarez sendt me an e-mail today verifying my July 26th 2005 report to Beloruskaje Radio 100.5 MHz. The 26th July 2006 we had very good propagation towards Belaruse on FM. I sent several reports without any response. So, some e-mail "follow-ups" a week ago finaly gave som response. This was my first verification from Belaruse also, so most welcome.

Informative letter from John Munoz, Engineering Assistant at KVNS Brownsville, TX verified my 15th November 2005 report to this station. KVNS operates 8.8Kw during day and 880 watts at night. The transmitter is located at Brownsville on the south-most border of Texas also known as "The Tip of Texas". This may be one of the reason why this station is heard so well in Europe. Good conditions again this morning. WXTC Charlestone, SC had a very good signal on 1390 dominated the frequency with "Heaven 13-90" slogans. Several other South State stations also heard. Finaly a good recording of WJNO West Palm Beach, FL 1290. Also an other US station on 1290 witch I belive was WKBK Keene, NH. I have a 2 houer recording from 1290 witch I hope will give me something.

The K-index raise fast last evening and that gave me some very good conditions to Bolivia around midnighet UTC. The common stations Radio Eco 4410, Radio Estambul 4498.3, Radio Yura 4716.8 and Radio Virgen de Remedios 5745.24v was very strong. Niche catch was Radio Tacana 4781.50 and Radio Constelacion 4761.49. Tacana had a good clear signal.

More or less the same conditions the last week. Newfoundland very good long before midnight UTC, followed by common East Coast USA. Mornings have brought many stations from Cuba and some good openings to Florida. The 21st gave me WIOD 610 with a huge signal. Also very strong x-band signals some mornings. KVNS Brownsville, TX 1700 have been very common, but also WEUP Huntsville, AL 1700 had a good signal one morning. Not mutch from South America on my location the last week.

The 2 last days have been exelent towards North America on mediumwave. Stations fades in before 22 UTC and the mornings have brought some very strong signals as far west as Ontario, Michigan and Illinoise. Also some Cuban stations have had strong signals. Today I heard WRXB 1590 S. Petersburgh Beach, FL with an identification in the jumbel of stations. Some other loggins: CHWO 740, CIGM 790, WCRN 830, WZAN 970 among a lot others.

Very good signals from North America the last 24 houers. Al ready at 2200 UTC the band was full of East Coast stations. Stations like WWKB 1520 and WQEW 1560 had very strong signals. Also CFAV Laval, PQ had a huge signal at that time. The morning brought many stations from Ohio, WTAM 1100, WERE 1300, WHK 1420 among others. The morning also gave me two new ones WHCU Ithaca, NY 870 and WEAE Pittsburgh, PA 1250. This was one of the best North American openings noted here for many years. Let's hope it continues.

CPN Lima Peru 1470 had a very goog signal 0600UTC this morning followed by Peru also on 1590, 1500 and 1250. A station witch have been heard several times on 1390 with a very bad modulation was again heard this morning. I presume this station is from Peru also. Very difficult to hear what the announcer say. Not mutch during my local sun rise. Propagations are not so good as I was expected. The sun "conditions" look very promising.

JOQC Morioka, NHK2 1386 sent nice card and stickers for my 9th October 2005 (KONG12) report. I also heard JOJB and JOKB during this expedition on 1386. JOQC was heard with a very good signal with no interference from the other Japanes on the 9th.

Conditions the last 24h is slowly improving. The Newfoundland stations came early, already around 21h UTC, last evening followed by common east coast stations. But, the signals som how stoped up. This morning brought CPN Radio 1470 with a huge signal at 0800 UTC followed by som Venezuelan and Colombian stations.

2006 have had a slow start regarding radio conditions. But last nighet the band start to open up towards North America again. WFNA Charlotte, NC 1660 had a good signal at 2345 UTC and several East Coast stations had good signals. Same this morning but nothing special was noted. Hope propagations improving the next days!
